Top 10: Shops in Palermo
Palermo is known as the hip, young, trendy area of Buenos Aires, often compared to some of the trendier areas of international cities such as New York and Paris. What were once traditional homes have recently undergone a wide scale transformation to some of the coolest shops around. There’s something for every taste and budget here, and the streets of Palermo tend to feature the work of local designers. From furniture to fashion, just window-shopping in Palermo can be a treat; most, however, can’t help but to buy at least a little something to take home. Here are the top shops to check out while in the neighborhood.
1. Gropius
Modernist furniture is the name of the game here, with restorations and replicas of mid-century classics. Look for Eames and Le Corbusier pieces here, all at reasonable prices.
2. Salón Muaré
Vintage accessories and clothing have been brought back to life by this boutique, and you can rent them out, or simply browse around for a blast from the past.
3. La Casa de las Botas
This “house of boots” truly lives up to its name, with rich, deep leathers in the latest fashions. No matter what your style, you’re bound to find something that strikes your fancy.
4. La Pasionaria
In an old, restored warehouse, this shop has a variety of items for sale, from many different eras of the past century. Find random knick-knacks and furnishings from modernist, Deco, and other vintage times here.
5. María Cher
The style at María Cher is constantly changing, but it is always casual and chic. Look for comfortable yet stylish fashion here, in a wide array of fabrics and collections.
6. Sabater Hnos. Fábrica de Jabones
This shop is particularly unique. The soaps that fill the store are made right in-house, with something for everyone’s tastes, in different scents, colors and textures.
7. Capital Diseño y Objetos
This is another store with a mishmash of objects, from leather placemats to toys to modernist furniture (a staple of Palermo boutiques).
8. Félix
Félix is for men who want to look sharp, but not overdressed. Their jeans are impeccable, and their simple button-down shirts and bold t-shirts complement the denim nicely.
9. A. Y. Not Dead
Clubwear that is actually well made? Yep, you can find it here, all with a hand-crafted feel and a unique, chic look.
10. Eterna Cadencia
Every good, artsy neighborhood has a bookstore like this, one that just makes you want to browse the shelves for hours, and curl up with one juicy selection. The bookstore’s café can help with that, too.
